RBI has recently released the list of holidays for October 2026. Many states will have more than one bank holiday this month. In total, banks will remain closed for 15 days in various states. However, online banking services will remain available during this period. Banks will remain closed due to festivals like Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, Mahalaya Amavasya, Maha Saptami, Dussehra (Mahaashtami)/Mahanavami/Ayudha Puja/Durga Puja/Vijayadashami/Durga Ashtami, Dussehra (Vijayadashami), Mahanavami, Ayudha Puja/Vijaya Puja/Vijayadishami. It also includes Lakshmi Pujan, Karva Chauth, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti.
Online banking
In India, all banks are closed on second and fourth Saturdays. Bank employees have long been demanding a five-day week. A major bank employees' union had called for a strike between October 28 and 30 over the issue, but it was postponed at the last minute.
Customers can do most of their banking from home, even during bank holidays, using online banking, smartphone apps and UPI-based payments. October 2, 2026: Banks will remain closed on October 2, 2026 on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. As it is a national holiday, banks will remain closed in all states and Union Territories of India.
October 4, 2026: Banks across the country will remain closed as it is Sunday.
October 10, 2026: As it is the second Saturday of the month, banks across the country will remain closed.
October 17, 2026: Banks will remain closed in Tripura to celebrate Mahasaptami.
October 18, 2026: Banks across the country will remain closed as it is Sunday.
19 October 2026: In Tripura, Mizoram, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Meghalaya, banks will remain closed to celebrate Dussehra (Mahashtami)/Mahanvami/Ayutha Puja/Durga Puja/Ashtami/Ashtami.
20 October 2026: Banks are closed in all states except Manipur and Sikkim to celebrate Dussehra/Dussehra (Vijayadashami) (ASO Sud-10)/Mahanvami, Ayudh Puja/Durga Puja.
21 October 2026: Banks are closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Sikkim, Assam, Kerala and West Bengal to celebrate Vijayadashami/Durga Puja (Daseen).
October 22, 2026: Banks will remain closed on October 22, 2026 to celebrate Durga Puja (Daseen) in Sikkim.
October 23, 2026: Banks will remain closed on October 23, 2026 to celebrate Durga Puja (Daseen) in Sikkim.
October 24, 2026: As it is the fourth Saturday of the month, banks across the country will remain closed.
October 25, 2026: Banks across the country will remain closed as it is Sunday.
October 26, 2026: Banks will remain closed in Tripura, Chandigarh, Jammu and Srinagar, and Himachal Pradesh on October 26, 2026 to celebrate Lakshmi Puja/Merger Day/Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti.
October 29, 2026: Banks will remain closed on October 29, 2026 in Himachal Pradesh on the occasion of Karwa Chauth.
October 31, 2026: Banks will remain closed in Gujarat on October 31, 2026 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
