ODI series: Afghanistan defeated due to the double century partnership of Gill and Kishan, Team India has an unassailable lead of 2-0.

Lucknow, 17 June. The heavy century hits of captain Shubman Gill (154 runs, 110 balls, two sixes, 22 fours) and wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan (125 runs, 79 balls, seven sixes, 14 fours) and the valuable double century partnership between them proved too heavy for Afghanistan, which got defeated by 170 runs in the second ODI played here on Wednesday and Team India was defeated in the three-match series. Handed over an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Shubman-Kishan scored 224 runs in 141 balls.

Forced to bat first at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, India, after a solid innings by opener Rohit Sharma (48 runs, 39 balls, two sixes, six fours), scored a mountain of 402 runs in 49.5 overs with the help of a brilliant partnership of 224 runs in 141 balls for the third wicket between Gill and Kishan.

Hosts reach 402 despite losing last 7 wickets for 62 runs

Thankfully, the Afghan bowlers made a comeback in the slog overs and in the last 10 overs, India lost seven wickets at a gain of 62 runs, otherwise at one point the hosts seemed to be going for 450 or more.

Afghan team limited to 232 runs in front of Arshdeep and Gurnoor

Counter-Afghanistan could never come even close to this lofty goal. In front of other Indian bowlers including Arshdeep Singh (3-45) and Gurnoor Brar (3-60), only Rahmat Shah (79 runs, 89 balls, eight fours), Sadiqullah Atal (42 runs, 50 balls, one six, five fours) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (41 runs, 33 balls, one six, seven fours) could show little resistance and the visiting team could win in 44.3 overs. Was all out for 232 runs.

Pacer Prince Yadav also took 2 wickets in the first match

Debutant Darwish Rasooli got injured in the middle of his innings and retired hurt and did not come to bat again. Apart from Arshdeep and Gurnoor, pacer Prince Yadav, who played his debut match, also took two wickets after spending 56 runs.

Rohit along with Gill added 87 runs on 67 balls.

If we look at the Indian innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal (four runs, one four) however returned to Mohammad Salim in the second over. But Rohit played aggressive innings with Gill and there was a quick partnership of 87 runs in 67 balls between them. Rohit was bowled by leg spin googly specialist Rashid Khan (3-48) in the 14th over.

Ninth century from Gill’s bat, Kishan ended the wait of 3 years

After this, ‘Player of the Match’ Gill and Kishan left the visiting bowlers helpless with explosive strikes. Amidst the two-century partnership, Gill completed his ninth century despite extreme heat and leg stiffness, while Kishan ended the three-year wait for his second ODI century.

The mammoth partnership finally broke in the 37th over at a total of 320 runs when left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote (4-76) returned Kishan. After taking the score to 360 runs with new batsman Shreyas Iyer (26 runs, 24 balls, one six, one four), Shubman also got his second victim by Kharote in the 43rd over while KL Rahul (0) returned on the very next ball.

After this, only Washington Sundar (19 runs, 19 balls, one four) could reach double figures. In this sequence, only 42 runs were lost for the last seven wickets, but Team India succeeded in equaling South Africa’s record by crossing 400 for the eighth time in its ODI history.

Rahmat Shah hits Afghanistan’s only fifty

While chasing a tough target, Afghanistan’s last match’s centurions Rahmanullah and Ibrahim Zadran (21 runs, 31 balls, three fours) added 52 runs on the first wicket, while a second half-century partnership of 57 runs was seen between Sediqullah and Rahmat on the third wicket. After this, Rahmat stood at one end watching the departure of his fellow batsmen and after scoring the only fifty of the innings, he was out as the last batsman.
