Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, the Pakistan cricket team defeated the West Indies by 8 wickets in the second Test match. With this victory at Port of Spain in Trinidad, the Pakistani team ended a three-year overseas drought. Opener Abdullah Shafique, returning from injury, proved to be the star of the match.
Abdullah Shafique’s historic century, Sajid and Shafique scripted the victory.
West Indies won the toss and scored 343 runs in the first innings. Justin Greaves (73) and captain Roston Chase (70) scored half-centuries for the hosts. Pakistan off-spinner Sajid Khan took four wickets to prevent the Windies from scoring a big total.
In response, Pakistan scored 387 runs in their first innings, taking a crucial 43-run lead. Abdullah Shafique, returning to the team after 10 months, played a historic innings of 160 not out. Pakistan was set a target of just 75 runs to win, which the visitors easily achieved for the loss of only two wickets. Abdullah Shafique (24*) and captain Babar Azam (24*) remained unbeaten in the second innings.
Team Ranking and Road Ahead
Pakistan last won a Test on foreign soil in July 2023 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. The win, which followed eight consecutive away defeats, lifted Pakistan to eighth place in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. This is the team’s first major success since Babar Azam’s return to captaincy in the red-ball format.
