Pakistan: Roof of tuition center collapses in Lahore, 14 children killed, 20 injured

Lahore, 30 June. A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday in Lahore city of Pakistan, when the roof of a private tuition center running in an under-construction building suddenly collapsed. 14 school children died while 20 were injured after being buried under the debris. Rescue teams are busy searching for other possible victims trapped under the debris.

According to Lahore Police, this accident happened in densely populated Kahana Nau area of ​​Lahore. At the time of the accident, more than 30 children aged seven to 13 years were studying in the academy, when suddenly the roof collapsed and all the children were buried under the debris. Police said that 20 injured children and a female teacher were immediately shifted to the hospital. At present, a few ambulances are deployed at the spot, which are engaged in rescue operations.

The roof of the part under construction collapsed, the contractor was arrested

Lahore DIG Operations Faisal Kamran told journalists, ‘So far bodies of 14 children have been recovered from the debris.’ Explaining the reason for the accident, he said, ‘A part of the building was under construction and when the roof collapsed, the workers were busy working there. We have arrested the contractor in this case.

The death toll may increase

Lahore District Education Authority CEO Tariq Mahmood said that a woman from the area was running a private tuition center in this building. ‘Edhi Foundation’, an organization engaged in relief work, said that the roof of this academy located in Idgah Colony, Kahana Nau area, suddenly collapsed. He feared that the death toll may increase as some children may be buried under the debris.

Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz expressed grief

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Punjab province Maryam Nawaz has expressed deep sorrow over this accident. He has given strict instructions to the police and district administration to identify the people responsible for this negligence and register a case against them and take strict action.

Meanwhile, provincial health officials have declared emergency in Lahore General Hospital. Senior administrative officials, doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of the hospital have been instructed to provide immediate and better treatment to the injured.
