Ahead of the third Test match versus England, there is a new storm brewing in Pakistan Cricket circles. According to reports, there is suspicion of match-fixing involving some of the players in the ongoing tour of England. The new development has brought back memories of the 2010 tour when Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amirand Salman Butt were found guilty of spot-fixing.
For now, the names of the players haven’t been revealed, but there are claims that it could be Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq. Amir Mir, who is the Media director and also the advisor to Mohsin Naqvi, put out a tweet that has raised concerns over a new match-fixing scandal involving the players.
Mir wrote, “The Pakistan Cricket Board has initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct, which are currently being reviewed internally. The PCB handles such matters in accordance with its standard procedures. The process is being conducted under PCB regulations, ensuring that all concerned individuals are given due consideration.”

Dawn News reported that the PCB had launched an investigation against Mohammad Rizwan and Imam Ul Haq. Both players are part of the seven members who were sent back home after the loss in the second Test match. GEO News reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board has obtained the mobile data of the two players.
The data will be used for investigation purposes to ascertain their activities and whom they were in touch with during the two Tests. The security team of the travelling squad confiscated Imam and Rizwan’s phones after the Lord’s Test. The mobile phones were handed back to Rizwan and Imam after obtaining the data.
Imam was also in the news for not batting in the second game after suffering an injury while fielding on day one. Ex-batter and selector Mohammad Wasim, in his chat with Nauman Niaz, said the opener had a history of faking injuries.
What did Aaqib Javed say about Imam-ul-Haq?
Former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed, who is the director of high performance and head of the selection panel, spoke to GEO TV about the opening batter. “Imam’s injury is a big question mark and deep disappointment. There have been players who were injured in the past but batted. We will take action against action. How can a muscle injury rule out a batter in both innings? He should have tried to bat and fought hard. He will face an inquiry. I can’t say he faked it, but such injuries cannot stop you from batting.”
