New Delhi: During Pitru Paksha, every date has its own significance, and in this sequence, Shraddha of Dwitiya Tithi will be performed on 28th September. On this day, Shraddha is performed for those ancestors who died on the second day of Krishna Paksha or Shukla Paksha of any month according to the Hindu calendar. On this day, religious rituals like Shraddha, Tarpan and Pind Daan are performed for the peace of the souls of the ancestors. It is believed that after receiving the Pinda made of rice, milk, honey, ghee and black sesame, the ancestors are pacified and bestow their blessings on the family.
Ashwin Krishna Dwitiya Tithi will start on September 27 at 8:58 pm and will continue on September 28 at 7:13 pm. In such a situation, according to Udaya Tithi, Shraddha of Dwitiya Tithi will be performed on 28th September, Monday only.
Auspicious time for Shraddha and Tarpan
According to the scriptures, Kutup Vela is considered the most auspicious for offering offerings to ancestors and performing Shraddha, which falls around noon. On September 28, Kutup Kaal will be from 11:48 pm to 12:36 pm. However, its time may be slightly different in different cities, hence one must ensure the correct time by looking at the almanac.
Method of Pind Daan and Tarpan
In the Shraddha of Dwitiya Tithi, there is a tradition of offering round balls made from flour, rice or barley to the ancestors. After performing Pind Daan, black sesame seeds are mixed in water and offered to the ancestors. While offering tarpan, one must keep Kusha in hand, which is a type of grass. Its ring is made and worn on the ring finger of the right hand. After completion of Shraddha, poor Brahmins should be fed and donations should be given to them. At the end, a devout prayer is made for the peace of the souls of the ancestors.
During Shraddha, there is also a tradition of keeping a portion of food aside for cows, dogs, crows and ants, which is called Panchabali. It is believed that through these creatures the ancestors receive food and become happy. It is said that this eliminates Pitra Dosh and brings peace to the ancestors.
