New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is starting its campaign today under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer in the Asian Games 2026. They have to face Afghanistan in the quarter-finals, but due to the weather, this match is in danger. India was the gold medalist last time and this time it is entering the field with the intention of defending the title. It has been raining continuously in Nagoya, Japan since Saturday. The Meteorological Department estimates that there may be more rain till Thursday.
Rain became the biggest problem in Nagoya
The match is to be played at Koroboshi Sports Park, which does not have the facility of floodlights. This means that even if the rain stops, it may be difficult to proceed with the game if the light is low. Not only this, visibility here remains poor even without rain. In such a situation, everyone's eyes are on how the weather behaves during the match.
Rain causing disruption in cricket is nothing new. Every time the effort is made to restart the game and get a result. For this, options like Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) rule and reduction in overs are available, but sometimes the situation becomes so bad that it is not possible to complete the match. Then under compulsion it has to be cancelled.
India will get the benefit of ranking
The question is that if the quarter-finals are completely washed out, then who will go to the semi-finals. The answer is that the decision will be based on ranking. India is the number one team in the current ICC T20 rankings, while Afghanistan is at 10th position. Therefore, in case of cancellation of the match, the Indian team will directly reach the semi-finals without playing.
At present the fans would be praying that the rain stops and the match gets completed, so that the result comes out on the field itself. Even if this does not happen, it is a matter of relief for India that the ranking is in its favor.
