PM Modi Inaugurate Semicon India-2026: PM Modi inaugurated 'Semicon India 2026' on his 76th birthday. This three-day conference and exhibition, running from 17 to 19 September 2026, is being organized on the theme 'Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem'. Companies from 52 countries including India are participating in the program. The event will bring together global and Indian companies, policy-makers, investors, researchers, start-ups, academic institutions and students from across the semiconductor and electronics value chain.
Addressing the program, PM Modi said that on one hand India's economy is growing, on the other hand the world's trust in India is also increasing. The country's semiconductor chips are reaching the global market.
Referring to the quarterly GDP report released in September, he said that even in challenging times, India achieved a growth of 7.8%. Meanwhile, Japan's credit rating agency upgraded India's sovereign rating, which happened after about 35 years. Prime Minister Modi said that the semiconductor sector is not such that a factory is set up and the work is completed. It takes decades to build the technological capability. But India worked together on chip design, manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, testing capability and has achieved success.
300 international companies will participate
Let us tell you that more than 600 exhibitors including about 300 international companies will participate in this three-day event in an exhibition area of 15,000 square meters. Over 150 speakers are expected to participate to discuss key developments and challenges in the semiconductor and electronics ecosystem. The exhibition will include 6 country pavilions and 12 state government pavilions, as well as dedicated forums for startups, innovation, students, workforce development and women in the semiconductor industry. Around 40 startups will be showcased in the Startup Pavilion.
12 semiconductor projects approved so far in India
Let us tell you that to promote semiconductor manufacturing in the country, the government has so far approved 12 projects. According to the government, commercial production has started in three of these units approved in the first phase. The Center has also approved Semicon 2.0. Its focus is on advancing the semiconductor related ecosystem in the country.
