After the release of Delhi's new Draft Voter List (SIR), names of a large number of voters have been left out of the list. However, those whose names are not in the draft list have a chance to get their names added again. For this, Form-6 can be submitted under the claims-objections process. But the data of the first 15 days of this process shows that till now relatively few people have applied for adding their names. About 47.5 lakh names were removed from the draft voter list released on August 31. After this, the Election Commission has given an opportunity to file claims and objections for re-adding the name. This process will continue till 30 September. According to available data, only 62,583 Form-6 have been submitted till September 15. That is, compared to about 47.5 lakh names that have been removed from the draft list, the number of applications filed so far for adding names is much less.
Estimate of 4.75 lakh applications, still the figure is far behind
According to the estimates of the election office, about 4.75 lakh people can apply to get their names included again in the voter list. This number is about 10 percent of the approximately 47.5 lakh names removed from the draft voter list. However, the figures so far are far behind this estimate. Only 62,583 Form-6 have been submitted in 15 days. In this case another figure attracts attention. Even before the release of the draft voter list, 2.12 lakh Form-6 had been submitted in Delhi. That is, in the period of claims and objections that started after the release of the draft list on August 31, the pace of applications for adding names has been slower than before.
How many people applied for name addition in which district?
If we look at the district-wise figures, the maximum number of people have applied for re-inclusion of their names in the voter list in West Delhi. So far 7,834 Form-6 have been submitted here. After this, 6,384 applications have come in North-West district and 6,297 in East Delhi. Whereas 5,585 people in North-East Delhi and 5,436 people in South-West district have filed Form-6 for adding their names. 4,287 applications have been filed in the Outer North district and 4,188 applications have been filed in the Central-North district. Apart from this, 2,647 Form-6 have been submitted in Central District and 2,547 in Old Delhi area. The least number of applications have come from New Delhi district. So far, only 1,203 people have filed Form-6 to get their names included in the voter list again.
Notices are also being sent to 33 lakh voters
The SIR process is not limited to only about 47.5 lakh names removed from the draft voter list. Notices regarding various discrepancies are also being sent to about 33 lakh voters who have found place in the draft list. About 97 lakh voters are included in the draft voter list. In this sense, notices sent to about 33 lakh people are more than one-third of the total number of voters.
Location of people keeps changing in Delhi
Election officials believe that the frequent movement of people in Delhi has also affected this revision of the voter list. Especially there are a large number of people, including government employees, who, after living in Delhi for a few years, go to their native state or any other state for job or other reasons. About 47 lakh people did not submit the enumeration form during SIR. After this, a draft voter list was prepared, in which about 47.5 lakh names were removed. However, an opportunity has been given to file claims and objections for re-inclusion of these names. Now, how many people from the names removed in this process, which will continue till September 30, apply to get their names re-added through Form-6, will become clear only after the completion of the process. Only after this will the picture emerge as to how many of the names removed from the draft list are included back in the final voter list.
