Commonwealth Games 2026: Indian women boxers won two gold medals in just 30 minutes. After Preeti Pawar, Jasmine Lamboria landed the ‘golden punch’. Preeti won the final bout against Canada’s Scarlett Savannah Delgado 5-0 in the women’s 54 kg competition. Meanwhile, Jasmine defeated Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh 5-0 in the women’s 57 kg category to win the title.
In the first bout of the day at SEC Hall 5, India’s Preeti won 5-0 against England’s Scarlett Savannah Delgado. All five judges gave Preeti 10 points each in the first round. Preeti then received full points from all judges in the second round.
By the second round, Preeti was clearly dominating the English boxer. While Preeti’s punches were powerful, Delgado’s were landing poorly.
In the third round, Preeti tried her best to tire out the English boxer, having gained a significant lead in the first two rounds. Preeti once again displayed her power in the third round, earning 10 points from all five judges to secure the gold.
Preeti Pawar won by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) against Deborah Mtenje of Malawi in the round of 16. She then defeated Nicole Clyde of Northern Ireland 5-0 in the quarterfinals. Preeti defeated Catherine Mwape of Zambia 5-0 in the semifinals and the Canadian boxer by the same margin in the final.
Meanwhile, Jasmine Lamboria secured a 5-0 victory over Michaela Walsh of Northern Ireland in the women’s 57 kg weight category. The first round went 3-2 in Jasmine’s favor, but in the following rounds, Jasmine completely dominated her opponent. Jasmine won the third round 4-1, giving the country its seventh gold medal.
Jasmine Lamboria defeated England’s Elise Glynn 4-1 in the quarter-finals. The Indian boxer then defeated Lesotho’s Rapelang Maselela 5-0.
India has moved up to sixth place in the medal tally with 7 gold, 12 silver and 6 bronze medals (total 25 medals).
