Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Friday launched the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' campaign in Pathankot, calling for greater public participation and urging people to make cleanliness an integral part of their daily lives.
Addressing Sarpanches and members of Gram Panchayats of Block Gharota, Kataruchak said the campaign would be implemented on a larger and more effective scale this year. The campaign began on September 17 and will continue until October 2, 2026.
Officials from the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation (DWSS), District Pathankot, also briefed participants about the campaign and its objectives. The session was held under the guidance of DSO-cum-Executive Engineer Sukhjit Singh and ADSO Dhiraj Dogra.
Kataruchak said 'Swachhata Hi Seva' was not confined to cleaning streets and drains but sought to build a sustained culture of cleanliness. He stressed that keeping public spaces clean and ensuring the safety, dignity and welfare of sanitation workers were collective responsibilities.
The theme of this year's campaign is 'Partnership in Swachhata, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat'.
The campaign's five key pillars include transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and development of clean public spaces; 'Swachh Pathshala — Yuva for Swachhata'; 'Safai Mitra Suraksha and Samman Shivir' focused on the safety, welfare and dignity of sanitation workers; cleanliness through public participation; and 'Swachhata se Samriddhi'which seeks to link cleanliness with prosperity.
The minister said a range of activities would be organized during the campaign to involve different sections of society in cleanliness initiatives and promote a sense of shared responsibility towards sanitation.
He urged local representatives and residents to actively participate in the campaign and sustain cleanliness efforts beyond the campaign period.
