Court sent him to judicial custody for 5 days
New Delhi. Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were sent to judicial custody for five days and both have been kept in Tihar jail. Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were arrested for violating the bonds they had given to maintain peace and unauthorized entry into Jantar Mantar, which had been removed from the list of protest sites.
Sources said that the bail formalities of his colleague Ajinkya Shinde are being completed. All three were produced again before the executive magistrate on Wednesday morning. All three were taken into custody on Tuesday morning. They are accused of breaking barricades and entering Jantar Mantar area without permission and raising slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Sources said the police had booked the CJP workers on various charges including unauthorized entry, violating prohibitory orders, violating the conditions of bond to maintain peace and obstructing a public servant from discharging his official duties.
He said Das and Ranka had filed bonds to maintain peace for a year after being detained during a protest on Saturday. The action comes amid heightened security in the national capital following a series of protests by CJP and other organizations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
Reacting to this development, CJP founder Abhijit Deepke accused the central government of suppressing the voice of dissent. Ashu and Sourav have been sent to judicial custody for five days, he said in a post on 'X'. What is their fault? Hoisting the tricolor at Jantar Mantar.
He wrote in the post, show some courage, Narendra Modi. If you are so determined to suppress the voice of dissent, then show courage to officially declare emergency instead of hiding behind these cowardly measures.
