Red Fort will remain closed for tourists from July 15, ASI issued order

No tourist will be allowed to enter the fort during this period. Every year, in view of the preparations and security arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations, a temporary ban is imposed on the movement of common people in the Red Fort. In the same sequence, this time also ASI has decided to ban the entry of tourists for one month.
In fact, on August 15, the Prime Minister addresses the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort. Due to preparations for the function, deployment of security agencies, stage construction and other arrangements, the entire complex is declared a controlled area from security point of view. ASI has appealed to tourists to keep this period in mind while planning their travels. The Red Fort will be reopened to the general public after August 15 when the security restrictions are lifted.
Under which rule will the Red Fort remain closed?
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has clarified that the decision to close the Red Fort for general tourists from July 15, 2026 to August 15, 2026 has been taken under Rule 5 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959. In the order issued by ASI on July 9, 2026, it has been said that in view of the preparations and security arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations, there will be a ban on entry of common people and tourists into the Red Fort during this period. According to the order, the Red Fort will remain closed for the general public until the Independence Day celebrations are over.

Preparations for the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort have intensified. Like every year, this time too on August 15, the Prime Minister will address the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort. In view of this, security arrangements have been tightened in the entire campus. In view of the Independence Day celebrations, stage construction, deployment of security agencies, rehearsals and other necessary preparations have started at the Red Fort. For these arrangements, the entire complex has been handed over to the control of security agencies.
Red Fort gates will open again after August 15
After the completion of the Independence Day celebrations, the Red Fort will be reopened to the general public by the ASI.
