Rohini jail extortion-bribery scandal: Court sent 5 accused including 3 jail officials, lawyer to judicial custody

The court of the Special Judge at Rouse Avenue has given a big verdict in the case related to the alleged extortion and organized bribery racket in Delhi’s Rohini Jail. The court sent three Rohini jail officials, an advocate and another accused to judicial custody till July 31. The court acknowledged that if the accused are released, they may influence the witnesses and the possibility of tampering with evidence cannot be ruled out.

These accused were sent to judicial custody

The court of Special Judge Vidya Prakash ordered Rohini Jail’s Assistant Superintendent Sunil Kumar, Head Warder Yogesh, Warder Jagbir, Baghpat resident advocate Harendra Bansal and Delhi resident Viplav Khari to be sent to judicial custody till July 31.

Why did the court express serious concern?

The court said in its order that prima facie there are sufficient grounds against the accused. Given his influential position and the seriousness of the case, his release could hamper the investigation. The court said that the accused may try to influence witnesses, tamper with evidence or obstruct the investigation.

Indications of increasing scope of investigation

The court also observed that preliminary investigation reveals the possibility that other officials of Rohini jail and some outsiders may also be part of the network of alleged illegal extortion. A detailed investigation is said to be necessary to uncover the entire conspiracy, flow of money and the role of all the people involved in it.

The whole matter started with a complaint

According to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), the matter came to light following a complaint received on February 9, 2026. The complainant had alleged that money was being demanded from him in exchange for providing security and facilities to his father and brother lodged in Rohini jail. To verify the complaint, the ACB laid a trap, during which an alleged bribe of Rs 1 lakh was recovered. After this, many people were arrested in the case and now the investigating agencies are busy in unraveling the layers of the entire network.
