Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has hit out at world leaders for giving “too little response” to Moscow’s stepped-up air strikes. He claimed that the Russian “Shahed” drone attacked a university in Kiev during daytime classes. Fortunately, 160 students were present in the shelter in time, due to which a major accident was averted. The attack was part of a larger and terrifying wave of attacks targeting the capital Kiev and other Ukrainian cities.
Giving information on the social media platform 'X', President Zelensky said that a residential building and the city's infrastructure have been heavily damaged in Odessa, in which five people, including a child, have been injured. Additionally, attacks in the Kharkiv area left thousands without power, while a building used by emergency responders and police in Kherson was also targeted. Air raid alerts have been issued in many other areas in view of the serious threat of jet-powered drones and aerial bombs.
Criticizing the international community's lukewarm response to Moscow's frequent attacks, Zelensky warned that Russia's military policies are not limited to Ukraine, but pose a major global security threat beyond its borders. He said that when Russian-Iranian drones are spreading such round-the-clock terror in Europe, it cannot remain a problem of just one country. Moscow is using its operations against Ukrainian cities to hone its offensive strategies for future conflicts.
Reiterating Ukraine's core security demands, Zelensky appealed to international allies to immediately increase defense support. He said each partner country knows what is needed at this time—advanced air defense systems for Ukraine, tougher sanctions against Russia and a massive increase in defense production. Earlier, Zelensky also warned airlines and operators using Russian airspace that the skies above Russia were becoming increasingly unsafe. Ukraine will continue to attack Russian military targets under its right to self-defense.
