Sanju Samson kept out of Zimbabwe tour, Rinku-Mayank return, selectors have great faith in youth

New Delhi . The Indian team for the three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe to be held this month was announced on July 6 (Monday). The Indian selectors have announced a 15-member team for this tour, the command of which has been handed over to Shreyas Iyer. Tilak Verma will remain the vice-captain.

The selectors have placed a big bet on the experienced players as well as the youth for this tour. Three T20 International matches between India and Zimbabwe will be played in Harare on 23, 25 and 26 July. Let us look at 5 big things related to team selection for Zimbabwe tour.

Sanju Samson ‘rested’, Prabhsimran gets place

Sanju Samson’s name is not in the Indian team announced for the Zimbabwe tour. His absence is one of the biggest discussions of team selection. It is believed that the selectors have given rest to Sanju Samson from this series keeping in mind the continuous cricket and workload. Although Sanju Samson plays for the Indian team in only one format, his not being selected is a very surprising decision.

  • In place of Sanju Samson, Prabhsimran Singh has got a place in the squad as a wicketkeeper batsman. Prabhasimran had earlier been a part of the Indian team during the Asian Games 2023, but he did not get a chance to play in a single match then. In such a situation, if he gets a place in the playing eleven on the Zimbabwe tour, then he would like to leave his mark in international cricket. Ishan Kishan is included in the squad as the first choice wicketkeeper.

    Rinku Singh’s wait is over

Explosive batsman Rinku Singh has returned to the Indian T20 team. Apart from the tour of Ireland and England, Rinku was also not able to make a place in the Indian team for the Asian Games 2026. Now the selectors have once again expressed confidence in him. Rinku is counted among India’s best finishers in T20 cricket.

Rinku Singh has the ability to score runs quickly in the last overs. His return is expected to strengthen the middle and lower order of Team India. Zimbabwe tour will also be important for Rinku because the competition for a place in the Indian T20 team is increasing continuously. In such a situation, they will have to take full advantage of the opportunities given to them.

Mayank Yadav returns after a long time

Mayank Yadav, who made a name for himself with his stormy pace, has also returned to the Indian team. Mayank played his last international match for India in October 2024. After this, due to fitness and injury related problems, he remained out of the team for a long time. Now the selectors have once again expressed confidence in Mayank for the Zimbabwe tour. Everyone’s eyes are also going to be on Mayank’s fitness. If he remains fit and performs well throughout the series, he can become an important part of the fast bowling attack of the Indian T20 team in the future.

    Trust continues on Vaibhav Suryavanshi

15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has also been retained in Team India for the Zimbabwe tour. Vaibhav made his international debut in the second T20I match played against England in Manchester. Vaibhav, who created history by debuting for India at the age of just 15 years and 99 days, was out after scoring only 14 runs in his first match. However, he definitely showed a glimpse of his fearless batting by hitting two sixes.

Apart from Vaibhav Suryavanshi, young players like Suryansh Shedge, Harsh Dubey and Prince Yadav have also got a place in the team. It is clear that the selectors are seeing the Zimbabwe tour as an opportunity to prepare future players. This tour will be very important for these young players. An excellent performance against Zimbabwe can include him in the future plans of the Indian T20 team.

Surprise entry of Ashok Sharma-Yash Thakur

The selectors have included fast bowlers Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur in the Indian team for the first time. This will be a big career opportunity for both the players. Apart from Sanju Samson, players like Akshar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna and Arshdeep Singh have also not been included in the squad. It is believed that keeping in mind the busy schedule and workload management, many of these players have been given rest.

India’s full squad for Zimbabwe tour: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Tilak Verma (vice-captain), Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Shivam Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Rinku Singh, Harsh Dubey, Varun Chakraborty, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav and Prabhsimran Singh (wicketkeeper).
