Devotees observing the Sawan Monday fast worship Lord Shiva throughout the day, following strict rules. To maintain energy during the fast and to enjoy something new and delicious, special recipes made with fresh fruit are a great option.

If you are also fasting on the first Monday of Sawan and want to try something nutritious, spicy or sweet apart from the traditional sago or buckwheat, then these special dishes made from fruits will add a touch of taste to your plate.

Shahi Makhana-Mix Fruit Rabri

If you’re craving something sweet and rich on a fasting day, rabri made with makhana and fresh fruit is a great option. It not only gives you instant energy but also keeps you feeling full throughout the day.

Material:

Full cream milk – 1 litre

Lotus seeds – 1 cup (roasted and coarsely ground)

Chopped fruits – 1 cup (apple, banana, pomegranate seeds, grapes)

Sugar – 3-4 teaspoons (according to taste)

Cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp

Chopped nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios) – 2 teaspoons

Method of preparation:

Boil milk in a heavy-bottomed saucepan and let it thicken over low heat. When the milk is reduced by half, add roasted and ground makhanas and sugar. Let it cook for 5-7 minutes. Now add cardamom powder and chopped nuts. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool.
Once cooled, store it in the refrigerator. Just before serving, add freshly chopped fruit and enjoy the chilled Shahi Fruit Rabri.

Chatpata Apple and Pineapple Chaat

If you are bored of eating sweets, then to make the taste spicy during fasting, fresh apple and pineapple chaat can be prepared in minutes.

Material:

Apple – 1 (cut into small pieces)

Pineapple – 1 cup (chopped)

Roasted cumin powder – 1/2 tsp

Rock salt – as per taste

Black pepper powder – 1/4 tsp

Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon

Fresh coriander leaves and pomegranate seeds – for garnishing

Method of preparation:

In a large bowl, combine the chopped apples and pineapple pieces. Sprinkle with rock salt, black pepper powder, and roasted cumin powder. Add lemon juice and toss well. Garnish with pomegranate seeds and coriander leaves and serve immediately.

Creamy Mango-Banana Smoothie Bowl

Fruit smoothie bowl is a very healthy and quick dish to make to cool down and keep the body hydrated during the summer season.

Material:

Ripe mango – 1 (chopped)

Thick yogurt or hung curd – 1 cup

Honey – 1 to 2 teaspoons

For topping – pomegranate seeds, chopped almonds and pumpkin seeds

Method of preparation:

Add mango, banana, yogurt, and honey to a blender and blend until smooth.
Transfer this thick and creamy mixture to a beautiful bowl. Garnish with pomegranate seeds, chopped almonds, and seeds and serve chilled.
