Shanaya Kapoor says she focuses on constructive social media feedback

Actor and entrepreneur Shanaya Kapoor has opened up about her approach to social media, saying she prefers to focus on its positive side and use constructive feedback to grow professionally.

Speaking at the ET Entrepreneur Summit, Shanaya acknowledged that social media can often become chaotic but said it also allows her to stay connected with her audience and understand their opinions.

“People always talk about the down side of social media because it can get chaotic on the internet. But I also feel there is a huge positive side to it and that’s (what) at least I look at as an actor and as an entrepreneur,” she said.

Shanaya explained that since audiences spend their hard-earned money to watch her films, she believes their feedback should not be ignored.

“If I have to give an example as an actor, if I ask people to spend their hard earned money to buy movie tickets to come watch me work and come watch me on screen but I don’t hear their feedback that they are giving on social media even if it hurts me a little, I’m not gonna move forward as an actor,” she said.

The actor added that she tries to filter constructive criticism from the negativity on social media rather than disconnecting from the internet altogether.

“For me, I filter out more than cutting the internet; I never do that,” Shanaya said. She added that she pays attention when people point out what worked for them and suggest areas that could be improved, while admitting that she is “still learning to ignore” pure hate and negativity.

On the work front, Shanaya has several projects in the pipeline, including the Zombie Reddy sequel directed by Suparn Verma. She is also set to feature in the Student of the Year series and JC, directed by Shujaat Saudagar.
