Shapoor Zadran Dies at 38 Former before birthday: 38 year old Afghan cricketer Shapoor Zadran dies a day before his birthday
Whenever the story of Afghanistan cricket will be written, one name will always be recorded in golden letters. Shapoor Zadran. His fast balls talking to the air on the field, long hair flowing to his shoulders and his way of celebrating after taking a wicket will always be alive in the memories of millions of cricket fans. But now this journey has stopped.
At the age of just 38, Shapoor Zadran said goodbye to the world. For your information, let us tell you that yesterday on 8th July, Afghan cricketer Shapoor Zadran’s birthday i.e. a day before his birthday, he has said goodbye to the world.
He breathed his last in a hospital in Delhi. He was suffering from Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a very rare and fatal disease, for the last several months. This is a disease in which the body’s immune system starts attacking its own organs.
Shapoor was fighting illness since October
According to Shapoor’s younger brother Ghamai Zadran, his health started deteriorating in October last year. After initial treatment in Afghanistan, doctors advised him to send him to India for better treatment. He was admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida. There was some improvement in his condition during the treatment and he was discharged from the hospital. But after a few weeks his health deteriorated again.
Initially, doctors thought that he had a simple infection or stomach problem, but soon high fever, dengue infection and rapidly falling red blood cells made the matter serious. After bone marrow examination, it was found that he was suffering from a rare disease like stage-4 HLH.
When Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi reached the hospital
In May this year, Afghanistan’s two biggest cricket stars Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi had gone to the hospital to meet their old teammate. While sharing the picture on social media, Mohammad Nabi had written that it was very painful to see Shapoor in that condition on the hospital bed. The entire team was praying for his speedy recovery, but perhaps fate had something else in store.
Who laid the foundation of Afghanistan cricket
Today Afghanistan challenges the big cricket teams of the world, but there was a time when this team had to struggle to make a mark in international cricket. In the same period, Shapoor Zadran was among those players who laid the strong foundation of Afghanistan cricket. He played 44 ODI and 36 T20 international matches for the country between 2009 and 2020 and took a total of 80 wickets. He was not only a wicket-taking bowler, but was also the face of hope for the new generation of players.
The 2015 World Cup victory that no one can forget
If we had to choose the most memorable moment of Shapoor Zadran’s career, it would be the match against Scotland in the 2015 ODI World Cup. In that match, he took 4 wickets and then scored an unbeaten run at the last moment to give a historic victory to Afghanistan. The picture of him running on the field with long hair in celebration after the victory is still counted among the most iconic memories of Afghanistan cricket. He was Afghanistan’s most successful bowler in the entire tournament.
Got inspiration from Shoaib Akhtar
Very few people know that Shapoor Zadran considered Pakistan’s great fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar as his idol. To fulfill his dream of becoming a cricketer, he also went to Pakistan for some time, where he improved his game. Later, after returning to Afghanistan, he represented the same country and showed the world that history can be written even after coming out of conflict.
Afghanistan Cricket Board paid emotional tribute
On the demise of Shapoor Zadran, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) described him as the pillar of the country’s cricket and said that he gave a new identity to Afghanistan cricket with his dedication, passion and struggle. The board said that his achievements and contributions will always be an important part of the history of Afghanistan cricket and future generations will continue to take inspiration from him.
A player is gone, but the story will live on forever
Shapoor Zadran is no longer in this world, but his story will continue to inspire every player who dreams of overcoming difficult circumstances and doing something big for his country. His fast balls will no longer be seen on the field, but his name will always be remembered in the history of Afghanistan cricket with the same speed and same passion.
