Mumbai: There was pressure in the domestic stock market during early trading on Tuesday. High crude oil prices and rising tensions between the US and Iran affected investor sentiment. Both Sensex and Nifty remained in the red in early trade.
Sensex opened at 77,336 and Nifty at 24,179.
BSE Sensex fell 30 points to 77,336.32 in early trade. At the same time, NSE Nifty was seen trading at 24,179.50 points with a fall of 38.80 points.
Later the market decline increased further. The Sensex was down 139.96 points at 77,235.23, while the Nifty was trading 66.75 points down at 24,162.50.
The biggest decline in these shares
Among the 30 Sensex companies, shares of HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, Maruti, NTPC, Power Grid and Bajaj Finance were under the most pressure.
On the other hand, shares of Trent, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank and Bharat Electronics registered gains.
Mixed trend in Asian markets also
Pressure was also seen in Asian markets on Tuesday. South Korea's Kospi, China's SSE Composite and Hong Kong's Hang Seng were trading in decline. Whereas Japan's Nikkei 225 remained in the lead.
American stock markets also closed with a decline on Monday.
Brent crude crossed $92
Brent crude futures, the international oil benchmark, rose 0.35 percent to $92.49 a barrel. The rise in crude oil prices is a matter of concern for the Indian market, as it may increase import costs and pressure on inflation.
Foreign investors bought shares worth Rs 1,181 crore
According to market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) made a net purchase of shares worth Rs 1,181.66 crore in the Indian stock market on Monday.
Earlier on Monday, Sensex closed with a fall of 171.72 points and Nifty with a fall of 32.95 points.
