During the Karam Utsav in Purulia, Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari made several important announcements for the Kurmi community. He talked about withdrawing the cases related to the 2025 movement, giving Rs 50 crore for development and including Kurmali and Rajbanshi languages in the Eighth Schedule.
Tezzbuzz Desk– Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari made several big announcements on Sunday regarding the Kurmi community in West Bengal. Addressing the Karam Utsav program organized at Karadi Maidan in Purulia, he said that the cases registered against people of Kurmi community during the movement demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in 2025 will be withdrawn.
Shubhendu Adhikari said that steps will be taken to withdraw all the cases registered against Kurmis during the agitation during the tenure of the previous government. He alleged that the previous Trinamool Congress government worked to create division within the Kurmi community.
The Chief Minister informed that a provision of Rs 50 crore has been made in the budget for the development of the Kurmi community. He said that this amount will be increased further in the coming time. Apart from this, he also talked about carrying out development works worth about Rs 1600 crore in the Western Development Area.
Shubhendu Adhikari also made a big claim regarding Kurmali and Rajbanshi languages. He said that his government will make efforts to include these two languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. In this context, he also mentioned the inclusion of Santali language in the Eighth Schedule.
The Chief Minister also clarified his government's stand regarding the community regarding UCC i.e. Uniform Civil Code. He said that a commission has been formed to implement UCC in the state and on the request of the Kurmi community, it has been decided to keep it out of its purview.
Shubhendu Adhikari also raised the issue of rights and development of tribal communities in his address. He said that the government will take forward the development works and no area will be deprived of development.
