Mumbai/Piyush Goyal: In view of the demand for manpower in the industry, efforts are underway to provide employment to the youth through skill development centers at six locations in North Mumbai. Through the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, spaces are being searched for skill development centers at various locations in the western suburbs. This skill development center will be set up to combine skilled manpower with the changing technology of the industrial world. An attempt is made to use this center for job creation by providing artificial intelligence, incubation center, training in latest technology. The Union Commerce and Industry Minister said that the manpower working in various places will also be given the opportunity to learn new technologies Piyush Goyal said.
An MoU was signed today (dated September 5, 2026) between the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for a Skill Development Center at Thakur Village, Kandivali. He was speaking on this occasion. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has provided a social welfare facility plot for this skill development centre.
Deputy Mayor of Mumbai Sanjay Ghadi, corporator Nisha Parulekar, corporator Deepak (Bala) Tawde, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Prajakta Verma – Lavangare, chief program officer of NSDC Sanjeev Singh and officials of Mahindra Group and Larsen & Toubro Group were present on the occasion of MoU for Skill Development Centre.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the industry needs a large amount of skilled manpower. In that case, the manpower working in various places should get new employment opportunities through updated training. For this, training classes will be made available in the evenings and weekends at the Skill Development Center. He also said that this facility should be made available through the skill development center so that the youth can learn various languages. He suggested that Marathi language training classes for autorickshaw and taxi drivers working locally should also be conducted here.
In view of the expansion of the hotel industry in North Mumbai, training should be made available at the Skill Development Center to supply the required manpower in this sector, Union Minister Goyal also mentioned. Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi said that in view of the boom in employment opportunities and real estate sector in the Mumbai metropolitan area, training should be made available. The role of skill development centers will be important in providing more skilled workforce as per the demand of industry. Timely supply of skilled manpower required by the industry will go a long way towards modern India. Deputy Mayor Ghadi expressed the belief that apart from Mumbai, employment opportunities will be available for rural Maharashtra from the Skill Development Centre.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Mrs. Prajakta Verma – Lavangare said that the Skill Development Center will play an important role in providing necessary training classes to the industry. In view of the creation of infrastructure, there is a need for up-to-date skilled manpower. Along with this, initiatives for training classes should be taken jointly to pool the skilled manpower of the industry world. Therefore, it will be possible to provide the manpower required for the special sector. Mrs. Verma Lavangare expressed the belief that the Skill Development Center will play a vital role in providing new technologies and increasing the number of skilled manpower.
