Skoda Superb Diesel will make a comeback in India by 2027, know what will be the major changes

Automobile Desk: A very wonderful and big news has come out for the lovers of diesel cars in the Indian automobile market. Leading automobile manufacturer Skoda has officially confirmed that it is going to re-launch the diesel variant (TDI) of its flagship sedan Skoda Superb in India. This car will hit the Indian roads in the year 2027. It is worth noting that Skoda will also launch the Superb Diesel in the market along with the facelifted model of its popular sedan Slavia.

Volkswagen Group had stopped selling all its diesel cars after the implementation of stringent BS-6 emission norms in India in the year 2020. In such a situation, after a long wait of almost seven years, this will be the first time that a car from Volkswagen Group will enter the Indian market with a diesel engine. Experts believe that after the success of the Superb Diesel, the company can pave the way for bringing its other popular diesel vehicles to India as well.

Instead of assembling this premium sedan in India, the company will sell it completely built (CBU – Completely Built Unit) i.e. by importing it directly from Europe. Not only this, this car can directly benefit from the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union (EU), due to which it is expected to get relief in import duty. Skoda will make it available in select numbers as a limited edition or in the premium segment, the supply of which will depend entirely on customer demand.

Talking about performance and mechanism, internationally this car is available in petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options, but for the Indian market, the 2.0-litre diesel engine has been chosen. This powerful engine generates maximum power of 150 brake horsepower (bhp) and torque of 290 Newton-metres (Nm). This front-wheel drive car has a 7-speed automatic (DCT) gearbox. The company claims that this sedan accelerates from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 9.2 seconds and its top speed is 225 kilometers per hour.

In terms of design, the new generation Skoda Superb looks more attractive and aerodynamic than ever before. This car has been built on the company's modern MQB Evo platform. Changes will also be seen in its dimensions; Its length has been increased by 43 mm and height by 12 mm, while the width has been reduced marginally by 15 mm. However, its wheelbase has been retained at 2,841 mm, which provides excellent legroom inside the car. At its front, Skoda's signature butterfly grille, attractive headlamps and new 18-inch alloy wheels have been provided.

As soon as you step inside the cabin, you get to see a completely new and modern environment. The dashboard has been given a very minimalistic and clean look. At its center is a large 13-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver. The biggest feature of the cabin is its smart rotary dampers (smart dials), through which features like AC, seat heating, ventilation and media volume can be easily controlled.

Talking about the price, Skoda Superb Diesel is expected to be launched in India between Rs 50 lakh to Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom). Initially only the diesel model will be offered, however, depending on customer response, a petrol variant may be considered later.
