Desk. A student opened fire indiscriminately in a school in a province located just north of Thailand’s capital Bangkok. The eighth grade student first shot the teacher and then shot himself. At least 15 students were injured in this firing incident. According to local media reports, a teacher and the student shooter have died in this firing incident that took place in the school on Friday (August 7, 2026). Local broadcaster ‘Thai PBS’ reported, “There has been a shooting at a well-known high school in Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province. Initial reports indicate that seven people have died so far.”
Thailand’s Education Minister Prasert Chantararuangthong has assured immediate action and assistance following the school shooting and urged caution in sharing sensitive information. “I am currently on official business in Ubon Ratchathani province and am closely monitoring the situation,” he said. “I have instructed all agencies under the Ministry of Education to work swiftly with relevant authorities and organizations to resolve the situation quickly, prioritize the safety of students, teachers, and staff, and immediately assess the physical and mental condition of all those affected and provide them with full assistance and support.”
He further said, “I appeal to the cooperation of the countrymen and the media to please not forward or spread sensitive images, videos or information, especially those showing the deceased, injured, students or people associated with the incident, and also not to share unverified information, as this may affect the rights, privacy and mental health of the families and affected people.”
He also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Thailand has one of the highest gun ownership rates in the region; it is estimated that there are approximately 10 million guns in circulation, or one gun for every seven residents.
