Demand for treatment of Imran Khan, appeal of 21 former captains including Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, letter written to Pakistani PM

21 former captains have expressed concern about the health of former Prime Minister of Pakistan and 1992 World Cup winning captain Imran Khan. These former captains have written a letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif demanding proper treatment and necessary medical facilities to Imran. This letter also has the signatures of veteran Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev. Imran Khan was the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022 and is in jail since 2023.

Imran Khan has been punished in cases related to corruption, leaking government confidential information and illegal marriage. However, Imran and his party have been calling all these allegations politically motivated. About six months ago also, 14 former cricket captains had appealed to the Pakistan government to provide immediate medical help regarding their health. Now after the addition of seven more former captains, this number has increased to 21.

Imran returned to jail from hospital within a few hours
The former captains expressed concern over the recent incident in their new letter. Pakistan Supreme Court had ordered to take Imran Khan to the hospital and get him examined by the medical board. His personal doctors and his sister Dr. Uzma Khan were also to be included in this board. But after being kept in the hospital for a few hours, Imran was declared medically fit and sent back to Adiala jail. His team says that the court order was not fully followed.

Concern about eyesight also
The former cricket captains said that they do not want to interfere in Pakistan’s legal process, but Imran’s health should not be ignored. He demanded that the Medical Board should investigate him completely as per the order of the Supreme Court. Especially the reports of loss of vision in his right eye should be investigated. Apart from this, there should be no hindrance in the weekly meetings with the family and the treatment recommended by the doctor should be provided to Imran immediately.
