Phoenix Suns sign Dillon Brooks to a long-term contract extension
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Michael C. Wright, the Suns have signed Brooks to a three-year, $73 million contract extension that will lock him into the Suns’ core for the foreseeable future.
Phoenix acquired him before the 2025-26 season as part of the Kevin Durant blockbuster with the Houston Rockets, and he immediately made a massive impact. Not only in terms of having the best season of his career, but also helping to turn the Suns into a tough, two-way team that could play a gritty brand of basketball.
Brooks averaged 20.2 points (a career-high) and 3.6 rebounds per game in his 56 games for the Suns.
He missed 18 games due to a fractured hand.
Brooks has always been a lockdown defender throughout his career and one of the most tenacious and physical players in the league. The Suns loved that mindset and embraced it on their way to a 45-win season and playoff appearance. The fact that he accompanied that defensive approach with a career year offensively only made him more valuable.
The Suns allowed 111.1 points per game, which was the sixth-lowest mark in the league. They allowed 116.6 points per game during the 2024-25 season, which was 22nd in the NBA. Brooks no doubt played a significant role in that improvement defensively.
