Automobile Desk: Suzuki Motorcycle India has launched its popular Gixxer series in the market in new and attractive colors. To directly compete with established motorcycles like TVS Apache and Bajaj Pulsar in the Indian two-wheeler market, the Japanese automaker has given a new visual makeover to its entire range. The company has introduced new color options in a total of 5 bikes of the Jeepser portfolio, due to which the range standing in the showrooms looks more sporty and modern than before.
The most important thing about this new update is that the company has not made any changes in the mechanical structure or engine setup of the motorcycles. The performance, power output, braking and suspension system of the bikes remain the same as before. Suzuki has focused its entire attention on refreshing the exterior paint scheme, dual-tone combination and graphics of the vehicles. Talking about the price front, the starting Delhi ex-showroom price of this updated range starts from Rs 1,37,221 and goes up to Rs 1,98,476 for the flagship model.
The naked streetfighter Suzuki Gixxer and the fully-faired Gixxer SF coming in the 155cc segment will get new dual-tone paint shades. A new combination of 'Pearl Blaze Orange' with 'Metallic Oort Grey' has been included, which gives a very different and bold look to the bike on the road. Apart from this, the options of 'Metallic Triton Blue-Glass Sparkle Black' and 'Glass Sparkle Black-Metallic Oort Grey' are also given in the Naked Zipser. The faired Gixxer SF will also be available in premium shades like 'Pearl Glacier White' and 'Metallic Triton Blue' with a new grey-orange treatment. The starting price of Jeepsar SF has been fixed at Rs 1,40,729.
The company has maintained the same old confidence in both these 155cc models. These have a 155cc single-cylinder, engine with OBD-2B emission norms. This motor is capable of generating maximum power of 13 hp and peak torque of 13.8 Nm. For rider convenience, features like full LED lighting setup, Suzuki Ride Connect Bluetooth connectivity with digital instrument cluster, disc brakes on both wheels and single-channel ABS are available as standard.
Even in the quarter-litre i.e. 250cc segment, Suzuki has given a new twist to the styling. The Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 are now offered in new shades of 'Glass Sparkle Black' and 'Metallic Oort Grey'. While the streetfighter Zipser 250 has a starting price of Rs 1,84,517, its faired sibling Zipser SF 250 has been launched in the market at a starting price of Rs 1,92,768.
Both these bikes in the 250cc range use a 250cc single-cylinder engine with Suzuki's patented Oil Cooling System (SOCS) technology. This powerful engine comes with a 6-speed gearbox and produces 26.5 PS of power and 22.2 Nm of torque. For better riding safety, both the bikes have been provided with dual-channel ABS system. While the upright riding posture of the Jeepzer 250 is comfortable for daily city traffic, the Jeepzer SF 250 attracts highway cruising enthusiasts with its sporty clip-on handlebar and aerodynamic fairing.
The biggest attraction of this lineup is the flex-fuel Gixxer SF 250 FFV, which is also available in two new color combinations. This bike can run easily on E85 i.e. 85 percent ethanol mixed petrol. With a price of Rs 1,98,476, this is the most premium offering in the entire series. The special thing is that its flex-fuel engine delivers slightly more power of 27 hp and torque of 22.5 Nm than the normal 250cc model.
Suzuki's decision to give a new look to its vehicles just before the festive season is showing its impact in the sales figures as well. According to recent data, the company has sold 1,13,936 units in the Indian market, registering a growth of 10.49 percent in domestic sales. With such cosmetic updates, Suzuki aims to attract young buyers and further strengthen its hold in the 150cc to 250cc bike segment in the Indian market.
