Hindutva influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj, who was detained in the case of attack on the father of a CJP supporter, was arrested by Delhi Police on Saturday. After his arrest, the police produced him in Delhi's Patiala House Court, where the court sent Swatantra Bhardwaj to one-day police custody. A day before this, the police had detained Swatantra Bhardwaj from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. After this he was brought to Delhi and presented before the court on Saturday. This action of the police took place at a time when the Sansad Marg police station was surrounded by the CJP. A few hours after the siege, the police arrested Swatantra Bhardwaj.
Controversy increased after viral video
Actually, recently a video of Swatantra Bhardwaj went viral. In this, while referring to the attack on the student's father Sanjay Kumar, he had claimed that he had seriously attacked him and broken his head. Swatantra had also claimed that due to his political connections he had escaped arrest and was roaming freely. However, as the controversy escalated, Swatantra Bhardwaj claimed in his defense that he had taken this step in self-defense. He said that at that time he was in danger of being attacked and that is why he took action in defense. At the same time, Delhi Police rejected these claims of Swatantra and termed them as fanfare. According to the police, the injuries sustained by Sanjay Kumar in the incident were of normal nature. Police had said that he was injured due to a bracelet and after treatment, he was immediately released from the hospital. The matter gained momentum after the viral video, Swatantra's claims and police statement.
After Swatantra Bhardwaj's video went viral, a delegation of CJP along with Azad Samaj Party President and MP Chandrashekhar Azad had surrounded Sansad Marg police station in Delhi on Friday. The delegation had demanded action against Swatantra Bhardwaj under POCSO and SC/ST Act as well as his arrest. During the demonstration, the police had assured the delegation that Swatantra Bhardwaj would be arrested within 72 hours. However, the police took action just hours after this assurance and took Swatantra into custody from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. After this, on Saturday, Delhi Police formally arrested Swatantra Bhardwaj.
Security increased at Sansad Marg police station after Swatantra's arrest
After the police action against Swatantra Bhardwaj, his supporters had called for a demonstration at Sansad Marg police station on Saturday. In view of this, the police tightened the security arrangements in the area. Barricading was done around the police station and paramilitary personnel were also deployed to deal with any untoward situation. Earlier on Friday, Delhi Police had added sections related to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and criminal intimidation in the FIR registered against Swatantra Bhardwaj. Apart from this, a case was also registered against him under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) Act. This action was taken by the police as the investigation in the case against Swatantra Bhardwaj progressed. At the same time, security was increased in the Sansad Marg police station area after the supporters called for a demonstration against his arrest.
