Taipei City, August 1. Teenage Indian shuttler Tanvi Sharma entered the women’s singles final of the Taipei Open Super 300 badminton tournament here on Saturday with a straight-game win over Huang Yu Hsun of Chinese Taipei. However, Unnati Hooda lost to the seeded Vietnamese player in the semi-finals.

17-year-old Tanvi from Punjab, a World Junior Championship silver medalist and runner-up at last year’s US Open Super 300, defeated fifth-seeded local competitor Yu Sun in the semifinals, 21-17, 21-11, in just 33 minutes.

The women’s singles final, for now, remained a home affair for India, as Unnati Hooda lost 15-21, 18-21 to world No. 21 Thúy Lính Nguyên of Vietnam in the other semifinal. Tanvi will now face sixth-seeded Lính Nguyên on Sunday.

Notably, Tanvi was part of India’s gold medal-winning team at the Badminton Asia Team Championships in 2024. She has made significant progress in the last two years. She won the Bonn International in 2024 and the Denmark Challenge in 2025, as well as finishing runner-up at the Odisha Masters Super 100 and Guwahati Masters Super 100.
