France has been rocked by protests over multiple issues, including fragile education infrastructure and rising prices. Initially the movement was peaceful but now it has turned violent. This time the fire of anger reached the famous Louvre Museum in Paris. It is known that a group of protesters protested by blocking the entrance of the museum on Monday. On the other hand, Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has already recommended a curfew in several French cities to deal with the situation.
The protests began in late September over a teacher crisis at a high school on the outskirts of Paris. Later it spread to most parts of the country. Along with the education crisis, the crowd also took to the streets to protest the exorbitant price hike. At least 40 cities in France are currently on fire. More than 3 lakh students have taken to the streets due to this week-long movement. However, in the name of protest, the protestors are doing vandalism, setting fire to various places. Police riot control forces entered the streets to control the situation. Then the situation became more heated. The police are firing tear gas to disperse the protesters. Water cannons are also being fired. The 140-year-old traditional town hall of Limoges was burnt to ashes by the crowd on Saturday. Also, looting is going on across France.
It is known that due to continuous protests, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez offered to resign on Monday. However, President Emmanuel Macron did not accept it. According to sources, more than 2,500 protesters have been arrested so far. Nearly 1,000 members of the security forces were injured while suppressing the protests. Macron gave a strong message in his address to the nation on Sunday. Said, “There is no justification for the unbridled violence seen in the name of the movement. There should be a distinction between those who are protesting with just demands and those who are vandalizing, vandalizing and looting. Those who are doing misdeeds must be punished. The government will take strict action against those who are creating riots.”
