Top 5 Highest Individual Scores in ODI Run Chase, with Shubman Gill | Read

Shubman Gill Has rewritten the record books with one of the finest chase performances in ODI cricket. The India captain scored an unbeaten 223 against West Indies in Guwahati to help India complete a mammoth chase of 406 and top the list of highest individual scores in ODI run chases. Gill's extraordinary innings pushed many famous performances down the list. Glenn Maxwell's unforgettable 201* against Afghanistan, Fakhar Zaman's 193 against South Africa and Shane Watson's blazing 185* are now among the notable innings behind the Indian opener.

Here's a look at the top five individual scores in successful ODI run chases:

1. Shubman Gill – 223* vs West Indies, Guwahati, 2026

Gill's unbeaten 223 Now has the highest individual score in an ODI run chase. He played an extraordinary innings as West Indies chased a mammoth 405/7 in the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

The India captain completed his double century in just 117 balls, breaking Ishan Kishan's record for the fastest ODI double century. Gill eventually scored 223 runs in 133 balls, hitting 26 fours and eight sixes.

What made this innings even more extraordinary was the size of the target. India needed 406 runs to win, but they completed the second highest successful chase in ODI history by scoring 406/2 in just 43.3 overs.

Gill also got great support from Rohit Sharma, who scored 101 runs. The opening pair added 255 runs, laying the foundation for one of India's most memorable ODI wins. 223* made Gill only the second batsman after Glenn Maxwell to score a double century while chasing in a men's ODI.

2. Glenn Maxwell – 201* vs Afghanistan, Wankhede, 2023

Before Gill's brilliant effort, Glenn Maxwell's 201 not out was the standard for the highest individual score in an ODI chase.
Maxwell played his famous innings against Afghanistan during the 2023 ODI World Cup in Mumbai. Australia were in serious trouble during the chase, but Maxwell did not give up.

Despite severe muscle cramps and physical struggles, he continued to attack Afghanistan's bowlers and pulled Australia from a hopeless situation to an extraordinary victory.
