Mumbai: Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups continued its theatrical run with a slowdown in weekday earnings, but the film crossed the Rs 229 crore mark in India by the end of its first week. The Geetu Mohandas-directed action drama added an estimated Rs 8.20 crore net on its seventh day, taking its total domestic net collection to Rs 229.95 crore.
The film, which released in theatres on August 26, has maintained a strong overall run despite a sharp drop in daily collections after its massive opening. Its worldwide gross has now crossed Rs 313 crore, giving the Yash-led film a substantial first-week total.
Toxic Day 7 box office collection
According to trade estimates, Toxic collected around Rs 8.20 crore net in India on its first Tuesday, or Day 7. The figure represented a 7.2 per cent increase over the estimated Rs 7.65 crore collected on its first Monday.
The Day 7 earnings came from nearly 12,900 shows across India, with overall occupancy estimated at around 20.4 per cent.
The increase over Monday was partly attributed to discounted ticket prices, which helped the film register a slight rise despite the usual weekday slowdown. However, the daily figure remains considerably below the film’s opening-day collection.
The latest estimates place the film’s India net collection at Rs 229.95 crore after seven days, while its India gross collection stands at approximately Rs 272.80 crore.
Day-wise collection shows sharp drop after opening
Toxic opened with a massive Rs 101.10 crore net in India on August 26, setting a strong initial benchmark for the film.
However, collections dropped substantially from the second day. The estimated day-wise India net figures are:
- Day 1: Rs 101.10 crore
- Day 2: Rs 37.65 crore
- Day 3: Rs 27.20 crore
- Day 4: Rs 25.15 crore
- Day 5: Rs 23 crore
- Day 6: Rs 7.65 crore
- Day 7: Rs 8.20 crore
This brings the seven-day domestic net total to Rs 229.95 crore.
The figures indicate that while Toxic benefited enormously from its opening, its collections have settled into the single-digit range during the weekdays.
Worldwide collection crosses Rs 313 crore
Despite the domestic slowdown, the film has continued to perform in overseas markets.
Toxic earned an estimated Rs 1.50 crore overseas on Day 7, taking its overseas gross collection to around Rs 40.75 crore. Its worldwide gross collection has consequently reached approximately Rs 313.55 crore after the first week.
The film is therefore approaching the Rs 320 crore worldwide mark as it enters its second week in theatres.
Hindi version remains the biggest contributor
The Hindi version has emerged as the biggest contributor to the film’s Day 7 domestic earnings.
Trade estimates put the Hindi version’s Day 7 collection at around Rs 5.60 crore, with an occupancy of approximately 21 per cent. The Kannada version contributed around Rs 1.75 crore with an occupancy of 26 per cent.
The Telugu version added around Rs 60 lakh, while the Tamil and Malayalam versions contributed approximately Rs 20 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively.
The figures highlight the importance of the Hindi market to Toxic, particularly as the film continues its run beyond the opening week.
Mixed response but strong first-week total
Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has received mixed reactions from audiences and critics since its release. Despite the divided response, Yash’s star power and the film’s large-scale presentation have helped it achieve a sizeable opening-week collection.
The film marks Yash’s return to the big screen following the success of KGF: Chapter 2. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, it also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria and Huma Qureshi in prominent roles.
The action drama has attracted attention for its stylised visuals and unconventional storytelling, while some viewers have criticised aspects of its narrative and pacing.
Can Toxic maintain momentum in Week 2?
The key challenge for Toxic now will be maintaining its theatrical momentum in the second week.
The film has already crossed Rs 229 crore net in India and Rs 313 crore worldwide, giving it a strong first-week base. However, the sharp fall from the opening-day figure means that sustained weekday collections will be important if it is to add significantly to its domestic total.
With the second weekend approaching, stronger occupancy could give the film another boost. Its performance in the coming days will determine whether it can maintain its momentum and move closer to the next major domestic box office milestone.
For now, Toxic has delivered a sizeable first week, even as its daily collections show signs of the expected post-opening slowdown.
