Trump made a big promise to PM Modi in the G7 summit, said, ‘If India is attacked, we will help’
New Delhi: During the ongoing 52nd G7 Summit in France, US President Donald Trump expressed open support for India. He said that if India is attacked under the leadership of Narendra Modi, America will stand by to help. This was the first face-to-face meeting of the two leaders after Operation Sindoor in May 2025.
Trump’s confidence in India-US defense relationship
In the bilateral meeting, Trump praised the growing strategic partnership between India and America. He said that even if there is no written contract between the two countries, America will stand with India in times of crisis.
Trump clearly said, “If he is attacked and Modi is the leader, we will be there to help. If there is any other leader, I don’t know, but as long as Modi is there, we are together.”
After the talks, both the leaders were seen shaking hands. This meeting took place at a time when both the countries are trying to resolve differences on tariffs, immigration and issues related to India-Pakistan. The need to maintain stable relations had increased even after the death of three Indians in an attack on a commercial ship near Oman.
‘There is no better friend than Modi’: Trump
Talking to reporters, Trump said that relations between India and America could not be better than this. “I am a very good friend of India. As long as I am President, India will have a trusted friend in the White House. Everyone here likes India and respects Modi.”
Trump described this meeting which took place after 16 months as ‘very good’. She said relationships start with leaders, and both she and Modi were trying to bring their countries closer.
Called Modi a ‘tough negotiator’
Praising Prime Minister Modi, Trump said that he is very strict in negotiations. Modi strongly defends India’s interests in trade discussions.
Trump said, “As calm and nice as he looks on the outside, he is as tough on the inside. He loves the Indian people, but he also has an affection for America. I remember our Howdy Modi program in Houston, the stadium was full. We will visit India again in the future.”
This meeting of the two leaders is considered important in the direction of strengthening relations amid trade and geopolitical tensions. The two also had a warm meeting at the G7 outreach program on Tuesday.
