Two women have reportedly developed kidney-related complications following Caesarean deliveries at New Medical College Hospital in Kota, Rajasthan, raising fresh concerns about post-delivery care and patient monitoring.
One of the patients, Reshma, was transferred to a private hospital after her condition deteriorated. She is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). The second patient, Anita, has been admitted to the ICU in the Super Specialty Block of New Medical College Hospital.
According to reports, Reshma underwent a Caesarean section at the hospital on Wednesday. Her health subsequently worsened, prompting her family to shift her to a private facility for further treatment. No further verified update on her current condition was available.
Anita has also reportedly developed kidney-related problems following a Caesarean delivery and is receiving intensive care at the hospital.
The latest cases have renewed concerns about a similar incident at the same hospital nearly five months ago, when 12 new mothers reportedly developed kidney failure following Caesarean deliveries, resulting in five deaths.
The recurrence of reported kidney complications has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the patients' illnesses, including post-operative monitoring and treatment protocols. However, the precise cause of the latest cases has not yet been established.
It remains unclear whether the two cases are connected to the earlier incident or have separate causes. The similarity of the reported complications and their occurrence at the same hospital are not, by themselves, sufficient to establish a link.
Further medical assessment and investigation will be required to determine whether the complications are associated with medication, surgical or post-operative factors, underlying medical conditions, or another cause.
Until medical findings are available, it would be premature to attribute the cases to a particular drug, treatment protocol or lapse in hospital care. The immediate priority remains the treatment of both patients and a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding their conditions.
