Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde, who went out on Wednesday morning to take stock of the ground situation, met with an accident which exposed the administrative claims. During the inspection, a person fell into an open manhole in front of the mayor’s eyes. Later the person was identified as a sanitation worker of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Enraged mayor warned of suspension

Seeing this accident, Mayor Ritu Tawde got angry. He strongly reprimanded the officers present on the spot and gave a stern warning that if any manhole is found open anywhere in the city, the officer responsible for that ward will be immediately suspended. However, the video of this entire incident went viral on social media, where different types of reactions of people were seen.

The mayor asked why the manhole cover was removed?

After this the Mayor told that the cover of the manhole was removed to take out the garbage. He also appealed to the public and said that alert boards and barricades were installed there. When it is clearly written that ‘be careful’, then people should also be cautious.

Mayor Ritu further said that I appeal to the people of Mumbai to read the notices and posters put up by BMC. He stressed that pumps have been installed to remove water from the roads and BMC is working on a war footing.

What kind of ‘politics’ on Mumbai rains?

Let us tell you that this very first rain has also brought a boil in the politics of Mumbai. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the ruling Mahayuti government. Aditya Thackeray wrote on social media platform X that the BJP led government has completely destroyed the funds of BMC.

He alleged that the present government did not build rain water harvesting tanks, ignoring the advice of the previous Mahavikas Aghadi government. Thackeray said that for a coastal city like Mumbai, it is very important to expand the pumping station and drainage system.

Aditya Thackeray’s allegation

Aditya further said that between 2020 and 2022, we had proved it by building this system in Hind Mata, Gandhi Market and Milan Subway. The sad thing is that now these people do not even run the pumps and holding tanks built there properly.
