VVS Laxman will become Gambhir-Agarkar's boss! Getting new responsibility in Indian cricket for the first time

A big change is likely to be seen in Indian cricket in the coming days. For many years, officials like the President and Secretary were taking the responsibility of major decisions related to cricket in the Board. But now this is going to change. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is soon going to start a new post, the responsibility of which can be handled by veteran batsman VVS Laxman. This post is- Director of Cricket i.e. Director of Cricket.

What will be Laxman’s role?

According to a report, BCCI is introducing the role of Director of Cricket (DoC) in the board for the first time and Laxman can be made the first director. In this role, Laxman will take decisions related to cricket for the Indian cricket team (men’s and women’s). This includes everything from recruitment to performance assessment, analysis and planning. Besides, India A team and Under-19 cricket team will also be included in it. No formal announcement has been made regarding this yet, but it is believed that it may be approved in the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

If this happens, Laxman will become the most important person in the board after the BCCI officials because from the head coach of the team to the selection committee will also be directly under the Director of Cricket. That means, in the current situation, Laxman will be the boss of Men’s Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, Women’s Head Coach Amol Majumdar, Men’s Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Women’s Chief Selector Amita Sharma. In the coming times also, Laxman or the next DoC will appoint the head coach and selectors.

Laxman will remain in CoE

Laxman is currently working as the head of the Center of Cricket (CoE) in Bengaluru and it is being told that his tenure can be extended by 2 years. During this period, apart from the Director of Cricket, he will also play the role of the head of CoE. With this dual role, Laxman will be able to equally review the development of new players as well as the performance of existing players. Besides, by analyzing the performance of the coaching staff, we will be able to take decisions related to their tenure.
