New Delhi. The news of the sudden death of a youth while working out at the gym or while dancing often surprises people. How can this happen to a person who looks completely fit? A study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has given many important clues related to this question. According to researchers, many risk factors may be responsible for heart attack and blood clot formation at an early age. Among these, the main reasons are formation of blood clot, history of such problem in the family, other diseases and smoking.
This study was conducted by researchers from ICMR's National Institute of Epidemiology in 25 major hospitals of the country. 767 patients aged between 18 to 45 years were included in the research. The special thing is that in the study such patients were seen who were saved after getting timely treatment. Its objective was to understand what factors could play a role in the development of heart attacks or blood clots in the body at a relatively young age.
The study revealed that people who had already had the problem of blood clot formation were found to have a much higher risk of heart attack. This risk was seen to be about 60 times higher in such people. At the same time, the risk of heart attack was found to be 4.6 times higher in patients who already had some other disease.
The study also issued a serious warning for smokers. The risk of heart attack in such people was found to be 3.5 times higher. Apart from this, the risk of heart attack in people whose family member had previously had the problem of blood clot was also found to be about 3.3 times higher than that of normal people.
The research also revealed information related to Covid. The problem of blood clot formation was seen in people who had to be hospitalized due to Covid infection. However, according to the study, there was no evidence of any such harm to people due to the Covid vaccine.
Of the 767 patients included in the study, 432 i.e. about 56.3 percent had suffered a heart attack. At the same time, in 198 patients i.e. about 25.8 percent, the problem related to stoppage of blood flow in the brain vein was found. Including both types of cases, this number was a large part of the patients included in the study.
Study is also important in terms of age. Of the total patients, 614 i.e. about 80.1 percent were aged between 31 to 45 years. This means that such risks are not limited only to very old people. Even among the youth, if any risk already exists then ignoring it can prove costly.
According to experts, this does not mean that going to the gym or dancing is dangerous in itself. Regular physical activity is generally beneficial for health. But people who have a history of cardiovascular risk or blood clotting problems should exercise as per their capacity and consult a doctor if necessary.
An important message from this study is that sometimes pre-existing risks can be hidden behind sudden events. Therefore, instead of ignoring body signals, it is important to get tested and seek medical advice in time. Especially smokers and people having a history of such disease in the family should be more cautious about their health.
