Jhansi. A very painful and humanity-shaking picture has emerged from Jhansi Medical College, Uttar Pradesh, exposing the health system. Due to unavailability of ambulance here, a helpless and poor husband was forced to carry his wife's body on a stretcher amidst heavy rain. This heart-wrenching incident has once again exposed the ground reality of tall administrative claims regarding facilities provided to patients and their families in government hospitals.
According to the information, the husband of the deceased woman and her innocent daughter kept waiting for a long time for the hearse or ambulance to take the body home respectfully. When no vehicle was provided by the management despite pleading for help from the hospital staff and officials for hours, the desperate man himself placed his wife's body on a stretcher and started carrying it out of the hospital premises, pushing it amidst the rain. During this time, his younger daughter also kept walking with her father, getting drenched in the rain and crying. Seeing this scene, the eyes of the people present there became moist, but the heart of the hospital system did not melt.
After the video and pictures of this shameful incident surfaced, there has been a stir in the health department and local administration. Expressing their anger on social media, people are raising questions as to where the free ambulance and hearse services run by the government spending crores of rupees disappear at a time when the poor need them the most. At present, after the matter gained momentum, higher officials have taken cognizance of this gross negligence and have ordered an investigation, but this incident has definitely put a big question mark on humanity and the functioning of the government system.
