New Delhi. Sanju Samson made a brilliant comeback with the bat in the second T20 match against Afghanistan in Delhi. He played an important role in the victory of the Indian team by playing a brilliant inning of 57 runs in just 22 balls. This innings was special for Sanju, who was in the news for his batting for a long time. However, after the match, he not only talked about his batting but also spoke openly about the impact of criticism and discussions on social media.
Sanju admitted that the constant discussions and criticism about cricketers affects the player. He said that with experience he has definitely learned to deal with such situations but he is also a human being. It is natural for things to come to light continuously. Explaining this, he said that he often tries to keep himself away from outside noise but sometimes comments coming out on social media or other places are visible.
Sanju told that he tries to keep himself away from external noise like turning off WiFi but sometimes it turns on again and some comments come to the fore. According to him, such things can affect the mind. However, his focus remains on keeping his mindset clear while entering the field and he concentrates on his preparation and the game.
He made it clear that if he allows outside factors to dominate his game, it will be difficult to bat openly against the bowling. According to him, the batsman has to play every ball thoughtfully and thinking too much can affect the natural game. That's why he tries to keep his focus on the field only on the game and the needs of the team.
During the same conversation, Sanju Samson also expressed his opinion about 15 year old young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Vaibhav has performed brilliantly in the recent matches and his performance has strengthened his claim for a place in the Indian team. Sanju admitted that considering Vaibhav's performance, it was natural for him to get a chance in the team.
Sanju said that handling the Indian team is not an easy task. On one hand there are experienced players and on the other hand the excellent form of young players also influences the selection decision. Referring to Vaibhav's performance of scoring around 700 to 800 runs, he said that after such performance, giving a chance to the young player is an understandable decision for the team management.
Sanju also admitted that he had not performed as per expectations in the recent two-three matches while Vaibhav was in good form. In such a situation, the leadership group was faced with a situation to take a decision keeping in mind the interest of the team. Instead of looking at this decision as a complaint, Sanju talked about understanding the compulsion and responsibility of the team management.
He also mentioned the conversation he had with head coach Gautam Gambhir. According to Sanju, this issue was discussed within the team during the series and Gambhir had talked to him a lot even before the series started. According to him, clear communication is very important in such matters.
Sanju said that it is easy to take a popular decision but it is more challenging to take a difficult decision in the interest of the team. Praising the leadership group, he said that difficult decisions are being taken keeping the team at the forefront. His statement shows how important team goals and mutual communication are for a player amid the competition for selection.
