Why does skin darken despite applying sunscreen? Know the reason and ways to avoid it Gujarati

Sunscreen is considered to be the best solution to protect the skin from tanning (darkening of the skin) in the scorching heat and strong sun of summer. However, many people complain that their skin is getting tan despite applying sunscreen regularly every day. Why does this happen after all? Dr., Senior Consultant Dermatologist, Shri Balaji Action Medical Institute, Delhi. Vijay Singhale has given detailed information about the main reasons and mistakes behind this.

According to experts, the color of the skin is determined due to the element called ‘melanin’ present in our skin. When the skin is directly exposed to bright sunlight and harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays, the amount of melanin starts increasing. Due to this process, sun tan occurs on the skin. If this tanning is not removed in time, it takes the form of permanent darkness on the skin.

  • Why does tanning happen despite applying sunscreen? Know these 3 big mistakes

Not applying enough sunscreen: Most people apply sunscreen regularly, but its quantity is very less. If sunscreen is not applied on the skin in sufficient quantity, it cannot provide adequate protection against the sun’s rays.
Not reapplying at appropriate time: Another big mistake people make regarding sunscreen is that after applying it once in the morning, they feel carefree for the whole day. According to experts, it is necessary to apply sunscreen at least twice a day. Especially if you stay in the heat for a long time or are exposed to sunlight, you should reapply sunscreen every 2 to 3 hours.
Ignoring SPF and PA ratings: While buying sunscreen, it should be as per the requirement of the skin. The doctor said that before taking sunscreen, it is important to pay special attention to the SPF and PA rating written on it. Both these formulas play an important role in protecting the skin from tanning and UV rays.

Staying in the sun for a long time, excessive sweating and direct exposure of the skin to sunlight are also responsible for tanning. Therefore, just applying sunscreen is not enough, it is equally important to apply it in the right way and in the right quantity.
