Digital Desk, Bhopal. The England Cricket Board has made a major decision ahead of the three-Test series against Pakistan. Following Ben Stokes’ retirement from international cricket, the Test team has been reassigned from young batsman Harry Brook to veteran Joe Root. England national selector Marcus North explained the reasoning behind this decision.
35-year-old Joe Root has previously captained the England Test team. He led the team in 64 Test matches between 2017 and 2022, winning 28 of them. He relinquished the captaincy after the 2022 loss against the West Indies. Now, the board has reposed its faith in him once again.

Don’t want to put extra pressure on Brooke
According to Marcus North, Harry Brooke is currently the captain of England’s ODI and T20 teams, and his leadership skills in limited-overs cricket are steadily improving. Therefore, the board believes that giving him the responsibility of the Test team would not be appropriate at this time, as captaining all three formats could prove to be a significant challenge for any player.
He said that Brook and head coach Brendon McCullum are fully focused on preparations for next year’s ODI World Cup. Therefore, experienced options have been selected for the Test team, allowing Brook to fully focus on his current role.

“Harry’s time will come too.”
North also clarified that Harry Brook will not be considered for the Test captaincy in the future. He said Brook is a valuable player in England cricket and has the potential to lead the Test team in the future.
He said that having an experienced captain like Joe Root is a great asset to the team right now. His experience will be beneficial to the Test team as well as to Brook and McCullum.
