Why the controversy?

The major objections of the opponents to the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill centered on two points: First, the proposal to increase the number of Lok Sabha seats to 850 through constitutional amendment. Second, the lack of a clear formula for this expansion and reorganization of spaces. Section 8 of the bill, which deals with reorganization, only states that the reorganization commission will redistribute the seats on the basis of the 2011 census and determine their constituencies, but does not specify the basis on which the seats will be increased.
