ICC ODI World Cup 2027 Schedule Announcement in Cape Town
The ICC ODI World Cup 2027 schedule will be officially unveiled at a special event in Cape Town on Thursday, October 1.
This is important because the ICC has already announced the host cities and tournament format, but fans are still waiting to know which teams will play at which venues and on what dates.
The October 1 event is expected to provide that complete roadmap.
The schedule announcement will also come almost exactly one year before the start of the tournament.
According to the latest report, the World Cup is set to begin on October 2, 2027and conclude with the final on November 21, 2027.
The October 2 opening date would also fall on Gandhi Jayantiwith earlier reports suggesting that the ICC had been considering the date as part of plans to honour Mahatma Gandhi.
World Cup Returns to Africa After 24 Years
The 2027 tournament will mark the return of the Men’s ODI World Cup to Africa for the first time since 2003.
South Africa and Zimbabwe were among the hosts of the 2003 World Cup, alongside Kenya.
This time, Namibia will join South Africa and Zimbabwe as the third host nation.
It will be particularly historic for Namibia, which will stage matches at a senior Men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time.
The ICC has built the tournament around the theme “Make the Circle Bigger”representing the three host nations and the return of one of cricket’s biggest events to the African continent.
ICC Introduces New Format for ODI World Cup 2027
The format is one of the biggest changes for the 2027 World Cup.
The competition expands from the 10-team tournaments played in 2019 and 2023 to 14 teamsbut the ICC has also introduced an entirely new structure.
The tournament will feature 57 matches across three stages before the semi-finals and final.
Stage 1 – Super Series
The three lowest-ranked teams among the 14 qualified sides will first compete in a round-robin Super Series.
Each team will face the other two once, and only the team finishing first will advance to the next stage.
That will reduce the field from 14 teams to 12.
Stage 2 – Two Groups of Six
The remaining 12 teams will then be divided into two groups of six.
Each team will play every other team in its group, producing a total of 30 matches.
The top three teams from each group will qualify for the next round.
One additional team—the better fourth-placed side across the two groups—will also progress, creating a seven-team field for the next stage.
Stage 3 – Super 7
The seven remaining teams will compete in a round-robin Super 7 stage.
That phase will consist of 21 matches, with each team playing the other six sides.
The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.
The first-placed team will face the fourth-placed side in one semi-final, while second will meet third in the other. The winners will then contest the World Cup final.

The city will host the October 1 schedule unveiling, while the iconic Newlands Cricket Ground has already been confirmed as one of the eight South African World Cup venues.
The schedule announcement should reveal how many matches Newlands will stage and which teams will play there during the tournament.
It should also clarify the venues for the knockout matches, including the semi-finals and final.
What to Expect From October 1 World Cup Schedule Launch
The Cape Town announcement is expected to answer the biggest remaining fixture questions around the tournament.
Fans should finally learn the opening match, complete group-stage fixtures, venue allocations, dates for the Super 7 stage and the locations of the semi-finals and final.
Most importantly, it will transform the 2027 World Cup from a tournament with confirmed hosts, venues and format into one with a complete match-by-match calendar.
