The announcement did not disclose what Raabi’atul Adawiyyah had done to upset the Sultan and the wider Royal Family.

Prince Abdul Malik and Raabi’atul Adawiyyah married in 2015 in an extravagant celebration lasting 10 days at Istana Nurul Iman, the Sultan’s palace. Around 5,000 guests attended the festivities, during which she received her royal titles, according to ABC News.

At the wedding, Raabi’atul Adawiyyah wore a gold-embroidered gown decorated with diamonds and emeralds, along with a jeweled crown. She later changed into a purple gown complemented by diamond and ruby jewelry for the evening reception.

As part of the traditional ceremony, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah placed Prince Malik’s hand on his bride’s head in a gesture of blessing.

Prince Malik, 43, is the son of Sultan Bolkiah and Queen Saleha. The couple have four daughters: Princess Muthee’ah, 10, Princess Fathiyyah, 8, Princess Khaalishah, 6, and Princess Nabeelah, 16 months.

It remains unclear whether the removal of Raabi’atul Adawiyyah’s royal titles will have any effect on her marriage to Prince Malik.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah has been Brunei’s head of state and prime minister since the country gained independence in 1984. At 80, he is the world’s longest-reigning living monarch.

Prince Malik is fourth in line to the Bruneian throne.
