‘Yoga is needed for world welfare’, PM Modi told how ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’ will lay the foundation of a beautiful future.

Kolkata: 12th International Yoga Day (International Yoga Day 2026) Today, on the auspicious occasion of Yoga, the whole world seems to be colored in the colors of Yoga. The country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Kolkata, the cultural capital of West Bengal, to lead this year’s main national program. Addressing a huge public meeting organized on the historic and iconic Red Road of Kolkata, the Prime Minister praised the glory of Yoga. He praised Yoga as a unique and beneficial force which not only provides healthy old age to the individual but also works to bring the world together by uniting the entire humanity.

‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’ is not just for the elderly

Addressing the nation and the world from the grand stage of Kolkata, Prime Minister Modi laid special emphasis on this year’s theme in his inspirational speech. He said, ‘Yoga for healthy old age’ (Yoga for Healthy Aging) The topic should not be limited to the elderly only. This topic is equally relevant for people of all ages, especially the youth. PM Modi further added that Yoga is not only necessary to improve our individual lifestyle, but it has also become a major necessity for a better and safer future of the entire world in these changing times.

Yoga should not let age dominate human ability.

Explaining the usefulness of yoga at different stages of life, the Prime Minister said that our aim should be that at the age of 40 we should be more active than the 20-year-olds, and at the age of 50, we should look more energetic than the 30-year-olds. Yoga keeps our body fit, keeps energy levels high and helps us live a stress-free life. It is the most powerful medium to keep us active and mentally strong even in the last stages of life.

Not a one day celebration, make it a part of life: PM Modi

During the speech, Prime Minister Modi made a very important appeal to the public. He urged people not to limit yoga to just a one-day celebration on 21st June, but to include it in their lives for the entire 365 days of the year.

While giving pledge to the crowd, the Prime Minister said:

‘Come, let us all together take a sacred pledge today that we will not limit Yoga to just a one day event. We will make yoga an integral part of our daily life, our family and the values ​​of our future generations. This message of the Prime Minister makes it clear that this ancient tradition of India has now become a global movement, which is laying a strong foundation for the health and global harmony of the coming generations.
