According to Shri Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, 280 major station locations were covered during the campaign. De-scaling of 174 toilets, deep cleaning of 280 dustbins and cleaning of more than 77 kilometers of drains and drainage ways were carried out at over 71 stations. Apart from this, special cleaning campaign was also conducted in about 140 administrative offices.
To improve the cleanliness system, modern equipment like scrubber-dryers, high-pressure jet washers, ride-on sweepers and fogging machines were used at 24 stations. The cleanliness of 27 toilets and bathing areas was also checked along with the functionality of their facilities.
To ensure cleanliness in the catering system, intensive cleaning campaign was carried out in 780 catering units, 14 pantry cars and three base kitchens. Insect and rodent control measures were also taken in food storage areas. More than 5 tonnes of garbage was collected in the three-day campaign. The total amount of waste removed and scientifically disposed during 2 to 5 October 2026 reached about 8 tonnes.
Special emphasis was also given to public awareness in the campaign. At Nandurbar station, students and Rotary Club members gave the message of cleanliness through street drama. At Virar station, NSS volunteers and Lions Club members conducted an awareness campaign regarding proper disposal of garbage.
These efforts of Mumbai Central Division are aimed at keeping the railway premises clean, safe and well maintained and promoting responsibility and awareness towards cleanliness among the passengers.
