Buffalo theft gang’s criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 arrested in police encounter

Kaushambi. Manjhanpur police arrested the criminal, who was wanted for the sensational incidents of buffalo theft in the district and was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000, during an encounter. The accused, who was firing at the police, was shot in the leg in retaliation, after which he was arrested and sent to the district hospital for treatment. Illegal pistol, cartridges and cash remaining from the stolen amount have been recovered from the possession of the accused. According to the information, on April 30, 2026, Santosh Kumar, resident of Bandhwa Rajbar of Manjhanpur police station area, had informed the police that on the night of April 29-30, unknown thieves stole one of his buffaloes and its child. On the same night, two buffaloes of Arjun Kumar Saroj, resident of Bhelkha village, were also stolen. The police had registered a case against unknown thieves in the matter and started investigation.

During the police investigation, the buffalo theft gang was exposed and during the earlier police encounter, six accused were arrested, out of which three miscreants were injured by bullets. The search for other absconding gang members was going on. In the same sequence, a reward of Rs 25 thousand was announced on the absconding Guddu alias Sahil son of Toofan Ahmed, resident of Rahimpur Maulani police station Karari. Continuous raids were being conducted by the teams formed under the direction of Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan. On Sunday, information was received from the informer that Guddu alias Sahil, the accused accused involved in buffalo theft incidents, was waiting for his associates near Edilpur canal of Manjhanpur police station area and was planning to commit some crime.

As soon as the information was received, Manjhanpur police station reached the spot and laid siege. The police asked the accused to surrender, but seeing himself surrounded, he opened fire on the police team. The police station in-charge inspector narrowly escaped the firing. After this, the police retaliated in self-defense, in which the accused was shot in the leg and he got injured and fell down. The police arrested the accused from the spot. During the search, one pistol .315 bore, one live cartridge, one spent cartridge and Rs 3,310 in cash were recovered from his possession. The injured accused has been sent to District Hospital Manjhanpur for treatment.

During interrogation, the accused admitted that he along with his associates had stolen buffaloes from Bandhwa Rajbar and Bhelkha villages. The stolen buffaloes were sold to the slaughter house in Unnao for Rs 30,000. The money received from the sale was distributed among the gang members, in which his share was Rs 5,000. Of the recovered amount, Rs 3,310 is left, while the remaining amount has been spent. Police have started advance legal action against the accused. The revelation of the incident and the arrest of the rewarded criminal is being considered a major success of the police.
