IND-W vs SA-W: Marizanne Kapp snatches victory from India, South Africa wins by 6 wickets

The 18th match of the Women’s World Cup 2026 between the Indian women’s team and the South Africa women’s team was played on June 21 at the Emirates Old Trafford ground in Manchester. This match between India and South Africa was very exciting. South Africa performed brilliantly and won by 6 wickets and with this kept their hopes alive in the race for the semi-finals.

 

Australia is at first place in the points table of Group A with 6 points. Whereas India, South Africa and Bangladesh have 4-4 points in their account but India remains in second place on the basis of better net run rate. India’s net run rate is +2.511. Whereas South Africa is at third place with -0.546 net run rate and Bangladesh is at fourth place with -0.641 net run rate. On the other hand, the teams of Pakistan and Netherlands are out of the tournament.

Team India’s innings

The Indian women’s team started well but could not convert that momentum into a big score. In the powerplay, the team scored 59 runs after losing 2 wickets. After this the pace of batting slowed down in the middle overs. Between 7 and 15 overs, the team lost 3 wickets and could add only 57 runs. Even in the death overs, the batsmen could not show much pace. In the last five overs the team scored 42 runs after losing 2 wickets. With this, the Indian women’s team scored 158 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

No batsman from India could cross the mark of 31 runs. Shafali Verma scored the maximum 31 runs for the team. Apart from them, Deepti Sharma played an inning of 29 runs and captain Harmanpreet Kaur played an inning of 24 runs. Whereas, if we talk about South Africa’s bowling, Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail took 2-2 wickets. Apart from this, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Ayabonga Khaka and Nadine de Klerk got 1-1 success.

South Africa’s innings

South Africa had a very slow start compared to the Indian women’s team. The team scored only 25 runs after losing 2 wickets in the powerplay. After this, the South African batsmen made a strong comeback in the middle overs and added 86 runs without losing any wicket between 7 and 15 overs. The team lost 2 wickets in the death overs but also scored 50 runs. On the basis of this strong batting, South Africa scored 161 runs by losing 4 wickets in 19.1 overs and won the match by 6 wickets with 5 balls remaining.

For South Africa, Marizanne Kapp batted brilliantly and scored unbeaten 81 runs. Apart from him, Tajmin Brits played an inning of 40 runs. For the Indian team, Shri Charani took maximum 3 wickets, while Shafali Verma got 1 wicket.
