5 storey building collapses in Rohini amid heavy rain in Delhi, fear of many people being buried

New Delhi: Amidst the heavy rains in Delhi on Wednesday, news of a major accident has come to light from Rohini area. Here a multi-storey building being constructed in Sector 16 suddenly collapsed. According to the information, work was going on at the site at the time of the accident, due to which many workers are feared to be buried under the debris. However, as soon as news of the incident was received, police, fire and rescue teams immediately reached the spot and relief work was started.

What time did this incident happen?

According to Delhi Fire Service, the control room received a call at around 4.20 pm that an under-construction building in Rohini Sector 16 had collapsed. As soon as the information was received, four fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the spot. According to media reports, the rescue team has so far pulled out many people from the debris. The rescue operation is continuing to bring out the remaining people safely. Eyewitnesses said that as soon as the building collapsed, people nearby ran to help and they were the first to inform the police and administration.

Rescue operation continues

Seeing the seriousness of the accident, the district administration, police and other relief agencies immediately came into action. Heavy machinery and rescue personnel have been deployed at the spot. All four fire engines are busy removing the debris and rescuing the trapped people. Police and relief workers, along with local people, are removing the debris very carefully. The aim is that the people trapped inside can be taken out as soon as possible and no one’s life is in danger. Nearby hospitals have also been alerted for the treatment of the injured. So that after being rescued from the debris, the patients can get immediate medical help.

What caused the accident?

It has been raining heavily intermittently in Delhi since Wednesday morning. According to initial information, the building was being said to be 4 to 5 storeyed. However, the exact reason for the fall has not yet been revealed. Officials are investigating whether the soil became weak due to rain or there was some flaw in the construction. Questions are also being raised on whether safety standards were followed near the building or not.

At present the entire focus of the administration is on rescue. Officials say that the priority is to first rescue the people trapped in the debris, after which a detailed investigation will be done into the cause of the accident. This accident in Rohini has once again raised concerns regarding the safety of construction work during monsoon.
