The ongoing anger and student agitation across the country over the NEET paper leak has finally taken a new turn. After more than a month of protests and hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post. After the important demand of the students has been fulfilled, there is an atmosphere of celebration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and the youth are calling it a big victory for democracy.

What reason did Dharmendra Pradhan give for his resignation?

In his detailed letter on social media, Dharmendra Pradhan made it clear that he has taken responsibility for the situation from day one. He wrote that he does not want the future of any meritorious student to get entangled in examination mafia or legal complications. To ensure that anti-national forces do not take advantage of the confusion in the country, he has submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also reiterated his resolve that he will continue to work for the youth of the country and Odisha in future also. Meanwhile, the stir in the political circles has also intensified and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been suddenly called to Delhi from Nagpur.

Opposition and student organizations said ‘victory of democracy’

As soon as the news of the resignation of the Education Minister came, the opposition leaders launched a scathing attack on the government. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called it the victory of truth and the defeat of the stubbornness of power. He said that now the Prime Minister should apologize to those students on whom sticks and pellet guns were fired. At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh called it a victory of youth power. Veteran leader Sharad Pawar also praised the 28 days of continuous unbroken struggle of the students and considered it a major success against injustice.

Sonam Wangchuk and CJP’s reaction

Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had gone on a 26-day hunger strike over the issue, welcomed the decision, calling it a victory for the country’s ‘Gen Z’ and peaceful movement. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke also celebrated at Jantar Mantar and said that this struggle is not limited to just one resignation. CJP has updated its list of demands, in which compensation of Rs 1 crore each for the victim’s families, withdrawal of cases registered against students and public apology by the police are still pending, on which Jantar Mantar and the entire country is waiting for the next step of the government.
